WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. - An overtime header from Ashley Hall gave the Union College women's soccer team a 1-0 victory at University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) on Wednesday.
Hall (Hazard, Ky.) received the corner kick from Renata Peixoto (Brasilia, Brazil) and put the ball away for the victory. Hall was about 10 yards at the near post and headed the ball over Cumberlands' keeper to the far post for the goal in the 98th minute.
Brittany Puryear (Somerset, Ky.) recorded her fourth shutout of the season in goal for Union.
Union improved to 6-0 on the year and ties the 2003 team for the most wins to start the season by any Lady Bulldog team. Cumberlands, who received a vote in the last NAIA Women's Soccer Coaches' poll, fell to 1-2. The win also snapped a two-game losing streak to Cumberlands. Both losses were by one goal.
The Appalachian Athletic Conference opener for Union comes Saturday at Tennessee Wesleyan College. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
